ah dong (yu wen le), who suffers from bipolar disorder, is sentenced to stay at the qing shan hospital for accidentally killing his mother (jin yan ling) who suffers from severe pain. after recovering and leaving the hospital, he lives in a room provided by his father huang da hai (zeng zhi wei), a taxi driver in land port. although huang da hai tries to care for his son, ah dong does not appreciate it as he harbors resentment towards his father for abandoning the family years ago. as ah dong tries to reintegrate into society, he faces discrimination from those around him. he attempts to calm himself down while also trying to reconnect with jenny (fang hao wen), his almost fiancée from the past. however, when he finally finds jenny, things take a different turn.
